Whether you're considering getting dentures or already have them, it's important to have all the information you need to ensure they function properly and last a long time.

Types of Dentures

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are used to replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or both. They are custom-made to fit the individual's mouth and can be made of acrylic or Flexible acrylic or chrome cobalt.

Complete dentures can either be conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be placed immediately after the teeth are removed.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They can be made of acrylic or metal and are attached to the remaining natural teeth with metal clasps.

Partial dentures can help prevent the remaining natural teeth from shifting or moving.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are held in place by dental implants. Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone and provide a stable foundation for the dentures.

This type of denture is typically more stable than traditional dentures and can provide better function.

The Process of Getting Dentures

01

Consultation

The first step in getting dentures is to consult with a dentist. The dentist will examine your mouth and determine the best type of denture for your needs.
02

Impressions

After the consultation, the dentist will take impressions of your mouth. This involves making a mould of your mouth using a special dental putty.
03

Fitting

Once the mold is made, the dentures are created to fit your mouth. The dentist will adjust the fit as necessary to ensure comfort and proper function.
04

Placement

After the dentures are made, they are placed in the mouth. The fit will be checked and the denture will be adjusted if needed. The dentist will provide instructions on how to care for the dentures and adjust to wearing them.

Tips for Maintaining Dentures:

Clean the Dentures Daily
Dentures should be cleaned daily to remove food particles and prevent stains. Use a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner.
Soak the Dentures
Dentures should be soaked in water or a denture cleaner when they are not being worn to prevent them from drying out and warping.
Avoid Hot Water
Dentures should not be placed in hot water as this can cause them to warp.
Handle with Care
Dentures should be handled with care to avoid damage. They should be held over a soft surface when being cleaned or removed.
Regular Dental Check-Ups
Regular dental check-ups are important for ensuring the dentures are functioning properly and to check for any changes in the mouth or gums.

From making the initial call with Sarah to treatment I had a fantastic experience.Amazing... atmosphere, perfect for nervous patients like myself! I have worried for years about going to the dentist and “Sophie & Shannon made it all disappear. They were both so patient with me and reassured me throughout the appointment . Taking time to explain everything and what to expect, I never felt pressured or rushed it was exactly what I needed to gain some confidence. I cannot thank all the staff enough and would recommend to anyone who maybe like myself and have worries and concerns.read more

This practice is by far the very best I have been to - ever! ALL the staff are amazing, from the... warmest of welcomes on reception, to the most fantastic and 'state of the art' dental treatment by an experienced, professional and extremely caring dental team. The premises are inviting, relaxing, and absolutely spotless. I've instantly gone from a terrified patient to feeling reassured and happy with my treatment plan - in a very short period of time. I just wish we had found them sooner, and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them (in fact I do so at every opportunity!) Never before has a dentist extracted my teeth without sedation, but Dr Johan did so with the very minimum of discomfort. I have now regained my smile, and could not be happier - thank you!read more

We lived in Canada for 20 years and when we returned to the UK eight years ago we struggled to find... a hygienist as thorough as our Canadian hygienist. Then we found Ramsbottom Dental Clinic and Kelly the hygienist. She is thorough but gentle and a lovely friendly person. The new premises are lovely with a large airy and bright waiting area. The receptionists are great and always make you feel welcome. I thoroughly recommend this dental practice.Lesley Welbourneread more

I started visiting Ramsbottom Dental care a number of years ago when I heard they were good at... working with anxious patients! I have now used three of the dentists there and am a regular on the dental plan; a regular check up amd hygienist clean for not much more than a tenner a month.Today I had a crown undertaken and cannot fault the work. I didn't feel a thing; fast, efficient and pain-free.All of the staff are friendly, helpful and reassuring; appointments at times convenient to me are always available and I would recommend everyone to give them a try.read more
