Types of Dental Bridges

There are three main types of dental bridges: traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, and Maryland bridges.

Traditional Bridges: Traditional bridges are the most common type of dental bridge. They consist of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) held in place by dental crowns that are placed on the adjacent teeth. (The adjacent teeth have to be structurally sound)

Cantilever Bridges: Cantilever bridges are similar to traditional bridges, but they are used when there is only one adjacent tooth to support the bridge.. This tooth needs to be structurally sound and stable. The pontic is limited to size and function

Maryland Bridges: Maryland bridges are a more conservative option that does not require the adjacent teeth to be capped. Instead, the artificial teeth are attached to a metal or porcelain framework that is bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth.

How Dental Bridges are Placed

The placement of dental bridges typically requires two or more visits to the dentist. The first visit involves preparing the adjacent teeth by removing some of the enamel to make room for the dental crowns. Afterward, an impression of your teeth is taken to create the dental bridge in a dental laboratory. A temporary bridge is placed while you wait for the permanent bridge to be made.

During the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed, and the permanent bridge is carefully placed and adjusted to fit properly. Once the dentist is satisfied with the fit and appearance, the bridge is cemented in place.

Dr Johan offered the patient orthodontic treatment and whitening. Because the teeth are so heavily worn the patient also required some restoration to align the edges. The patient decided to go for a veneer treatment. She had a narrow smile line and we only needed to veneer 6 teeth. These teeth were restored with 6 Emax crowns with a natural shade and design. Now she can smile at every opportunity.

This practice is by far the very best I have been to - ever! ALL the staff are amazing, from the... warmest of welcomes on reception, to the most fantastic and 'state of the art' dental treatment by an experienced, professional and extremely caring dental team. The premises are inviting, relaxing, and absolutely spotless. I've instantly gone from a terrified patient to feeling reassured and happy with my treatment plan - in a very short period of time. I just wish we had found them sooner, and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them (in fact I do so at every opportunity!) I have now used three of the dentists there and am a regular on the dental plan; a regular check up amd hygienist clean for not much more than a tenner a month.Today I had a crown undertaken and cannot fault the work.
